Project Description

The industrial sector accounts for approximately one third of CA’s total energy consumption. To meet the state’s energy efficiency and decarbonization goals, the industrial sector is an important sector to address. Energy efficiency programs specific to industrial customers lean towards custom and strategic energy management projects, which can have long timelines and require significant site work per customer to achieve energy savings. Deemed energy savings measures have the potential to streamline energy efficiency programs and scale the deployment of energy efficient technologies in the industrial sector. Extended motor products have numerous different applications within industrial facilities, making them a strong focus for exploring industrial deemed savings measures.

The CA electronic Technical Reference Manual (eTRM) has a limited amount of existing deemed measure packages specific to industrial extended motor products. Other state TRMs have additional measures that could likely be applicable to CA industrial facilities, helping to build out the deemed measure mix of extended motor products for industrial facilities. Research is required in CA to understand what other potential deemed measures are available for industrial extended motor products. Additional deemed measures applicable to the industrial sector would increase the measure mix available for deemed downstream and midstream industrial programs, allowing for increased savings through those pathways. The desired outcome for the project is a prioritized list of potential deemed measures to develop for industrial programs related to extended motor products.

The target market for this study is industrial extended motor products (IEMP) and their associated supply chain. The target programs for the study are industrial energy efficiency programs. The project will work with both IEMP supply chain market actors and industrial energy efficiency program implementers and administrators to understand the opportunities to develop new deemed IEMP measures. The target geography for this study is CA statewide, although existing measure offerings from other states may be relevant to the study.
