Project Description

The Program Team has established a robust Technology Priority Map (TPM) development process. These TPMs will document the impact potential, research needs, and market readiness of all technologies across each of the end-use technology areas which will drive product ideation and inform Project selection. The TPM will also look to include program linkages by connecting with stakeholders in the program landscape who have expertise in the Plug Loads and Appliances category. Strong, well-executed TPMs will help externally communicate the priorities of the Statewide Electric Emerging Technology Program, clearly define the central focus areas of the program, and assist with Project screening. The process will include the reformation of the TPM Subject Matter Expert (SME) Team made up of Technical SMEs from the project team of Energy Solutions, VEIC, TRC, AESC, and UC Davis.  The SME team will also seek external TPM advisory input, which will include an advisory meeting with representatives from the CA IOU PAs. Either jointly with the IOU PAs or separately, the SME team will seek feedback from emerging technology interests from the State of California (e.g., CPUC and CEC), other regions (such as NEEA and ComEd), and/or national interests (such as DOE, EPA, and the National Laboratories). The process will also include the review of equity standards toward disadvantaged communities (DAC) and hard-to-reach communities (HTR), with input and review assistance from the Ortiz Group. CalNEXT's 2024 TPM development will begin with revisions to the HVAC TPM and this Plug Loads and Appliances TPM. The 12-week process for the Plug Loads and Appliances TPM is scheduled to conclude in Q2 2024.
