ET23SWE0016 - Water Heating TPM (2023)
The Program Team has established a robust Technology Priority Map (TPM) development process. These TPMs will document the impact potential, research needs, and market readiness of all technologies across each of the end-use technology areas which will drive product ideation and inform Project selection. Strong, well-executed TPMs will help externally communicate the priorities of the Statewide Electric Emerging Technology Program, clearly define the central focus areas of the program, and assist with Project screening. The process will include the reformation of the TPM Subject Matter Expert (SME) Team made up of Technical SMEs from the project team of Energy Solutions, VEIC, TRC, AESC, and UC Davis. The SME team will also convene an external TPM advisory committee which will include invitees from the CA IOU PAs and the TECH program, as well as from emerging technology interests from the State of California (e.g., CPUC and CEC), other regions (such as NEEA and ComEd), and national interests (such as PNNL and ORNL). TECH program staff at Energy Solutions will select stakeholders from HPWH manufacturers and supply chain to target for additional feedback, and seek input from implementer(s) in high-HPWH-penetration areas such as the Northeast. We believe engagement from staff working full-time on HPWH promotion will yield greater response overall. The process will also include the review of equity standards toward disadvantaged communities (DAC) and hard-to-reach communities (HTR), with input and review assistance from the Ortiz Group. CalNEXT's 2023 TPM development begins with the revision of the HVAC TPM, and this Water Heating TPM process will commence in 2023. The 12-week process for the Water Heating TPM is scheduled to conclude in Q4 2023.
